Lego Build Inspiration

Have you run out of Lego ideas? Are you unsure of what to build? Or do you simply want to check out some cool builds? If so, then this is the page for you. Below are some ideas for creations that can be used for inspiration or full tutorials that can be easily followed. All builds showcased here utilise common and widely used pieces so any Lego builder should be able to follow these guides or use similar building techniques. Underneath the build photos is some more inspiration for builds that you could build upon yourself.

This first creation is a simple catapult featuring a functional arm that can fling bricks or minifigures! The use of different wheel sizes adds a more dynamic shape to the build and also allows for the catapult’s arm to be lowered further, increasing the speed that projectiles are launched. As well as this, the use of smooth grille pieces in the ‘bucket’ of the catapult allow the payload to easily be released, an essential feature in any projectile-based contraption.

The second Lego build is a simple spaceship. Inspired by modern space shuttles, this creation is very easy to create since it has a simple frame and body made out of standard bricks. However, there is a slightly advanced technique shown in the ship’s wings to create the curve of the wings. This method may be seen as ‘illegal’ by more advanced builders and can be easily replaced with normal plates for wings but this requires more pieces and potentially some more unique parts. If the video isn’t clear enough, the wings were created by slotting pieces with studs into the holes in the Technic bricks used to create the sides of the shuttle that are intended for pins to be slotted in but can be used for this purpose too.

Lego Build Ideas

Architecture/Buildings

Nature/Trees

Buildings such as houses, castles and towers are some of the first ideas that may come to mind and are the most obvious things that the bricks could be used for. However, there is a wide range of skills that are required to build a ‘great’ Lego house. The lowest level of these is knowing the key features that compose these structures. These include:

. Sloped roofs– Although simple flat-tops work fine for most houses and towers, adding a sloped roof or even a rooftop garden to your tower or house adds a whole new layer of detail and depth to your build,

. Chimneys– Even if your building doesn’t have a fireplace, chimneys can still be used decoratively to stop your roofs looking plain and bland.

. Attics– If you followed the advice and included a nice sloped roof in your build, you may be faced by a large amount of empty space above your room. to fill this space, you could turn it into a bedroom or even a storage space for accessories. furthermore, you could add a window to the front of the space and curve the roof to allow for more light to enter the room and add another layer of detail to your house.

If you possess a large number of green and brown pieces, you may be inspired to create a more natural build such as trees or maybe just a pretty garden for your buildings if you took ideas from the inspiration on the left. Building natural looking structures can seem daunting because of Lego’s sharp angles and studs but it is very much possible. Some ideas include:

. Slopes– Mainly for building trees, but also hedges too, sloped bricks can be used to create simple trees such as pines. The steeper the slope, the taller the tree can be!

. Colours– to represent different seasons in your builds, use different colours for your leaves such as white for winter, green for summer, orange for autumn and no leaves at all for spring.

. No leaves– To stop your naked trees from looking like blocky sticks in the ground, you could use upside-down slopes for branches or even simple plates protruding from the side of the main trunk to simulate tree branches.
